About Brass Band of Huntsville
The Brass Band of Huntsville was founded by Paul Zubrod
in 2001, and has entertained audiences throughout Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley with a wide variety of music, including classical, pops, jazz, seasonal, and contest pieces. The BBoH has also participated in the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) competition, winning the Open division in 2009 and placing 2nd in the second division in 2013. We are currently preparing to return to NABBA competition in 2020, with our sights set on winning the second division championship.
Conductor & Artistic Director
Dr. W. David Spencer is Artistic Director & Principal Conductor of the Brass Band of Huntsville and also plays in the first cornet section of the group. Dr. Spencer has been director of bands at Huntsville High School since 1980, received a B.S. in Business and Music from Auburn University, a Master of Music (Music History, Conducting, Trumpet) from University of Southern Mississippi, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of North Texas. He is also founder and conductor of the Twickenham Winds, an adult community band in Huntsville. He has performed with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra for thirty-one years, ten as principal trumpet.
